top 5 burgers in brampton

Burger cravings have stood the test of time. A succulent patty hugged by two buns, and any condiment you desire, can be known to cap off an epic night out or to celebrate cheat days with utter happiness and grunts of satisfaction (no one's judging, we can relate all too well). So instead of going to a quick and cheap fast food stop, here are some places that will make a mean hamburger with the love and respect a burger deserves.

5) The Crown and Lion

If you’re looking for a local watering hole to watch the game, have a beer and a burger this could be the spot for you. This cozy pub also has a roomy seating area along book shelves on one side of the bar and has dart boards lining the other side. When it comes to the burger, it’s totally above par. You have six burgers to choose from and from what I saw you can’t really go wrong from any of them. I’m of the belief that a fried egg makes any meal better so I chose the Breakfast Burger with the egg, bacon and cheese. I only added a little ketchup and mayo because I like saucy burgers, but the meal was extremely satisfying. The portion was huge, the fries were lovely and substantial, and on Tuesdays burgers are half price.

4) Jake’s Boathouse

This huge restaurant specializes in seafood, but after trying their burger I’d say they specialize in those as well. Their Bistro Burger is a bit on the pricey side but when you see what you get in return it’s money well spent. My burger was piled high with bacon, cheddar, the fixings and onion rings (!!!). It was the definition of a two-hander. Combine that with half a plate of chunky fries, it’s not a burger to be taken lightly. Either skip a meal or save some for later. And if you’re feeling adventurous there’s two other fancy varieties of burgers they offer. *Hint: one has chili on it*

3) Sonny’s Drive-In

No Brampton burger list is complete without this joint because it's a legend in its own right. A relic from a bygone era, Sonny's is all about nostalgia and feel-good food. Located on Kennedy Road, it looks like an absolute dive and that's probably what's most charming about it. In terms of food, Sonny's offers burgers, cheeseburgers, double bacon cheeseburgers, steak on a kaiser, fish and chips, chicken fingers, fries and more. As far as food goes, it's all very straight up and traditional—but sometimes, that's what your body wants. Who ever said a traditional cheeseburger doesn't hit the spot?

2) J Red & Co.

This place is special because it pairs great food with distinct ambiance. It's probably one of the most modern restaurants in Brampton, from the atmosphere to the innovative menu. Located on Vodden and Main, it's one of the gems in the city. Chef Jason Rosso is the mastermind behind the menu and if his name sounds familiar to you, it’s probably because you've seen him on Restaurant Makeover, Recipe to Riches and the Marilyn Dennis Show. He is known for offering familiar food with a twist and the menu does not disappoint. If you're in the mood for a good burger, try the Bob and Doug burger. You won't be disappointed.

1) Wally’s on Steeles

The restaurant is only a year old and they have a burger worth talking about. For $7.95 and change, you can get the Wally Burger to satisfy a typical burger craving. What they don’t tell you is that it also includes a trip to burger heaven. I didn’t add any condiments because I didn’t want to mask the flavour of the patty. It ticked all the boxes: juicy, tender, seasoned and cooked fresh. And the size of the burger! Ouf, it was bigger than the palm of my hand. A waitress warned me that it’s a big burger, boy she was right. It was enough for me without feeling over full. You can add fries for $1.99 if your heart desires. Find Wally’s on Steeles (eastbound) and Dixie.
